8 is a very auspicious number for the Chinese people. So 08/08/08 is an incredibly auspicious day. Hotels have been booked months in advance for wedding ceremonies taking place on this day.So obviously they had to pick today to start the 2008 Summer Olympic Games. Don't forget to watch the much hyped opening ceremonies later today.
It's also Father's Day in Taiwan today. Happy Father's Day!
